Assigment for the Centro Cultural Español in Malabo. Chinese companies are developing a massive construction plan in Equatorial Guinea ,around its two great cities: Malabo, the capital, and Bata. Deforested rainforest areas are the frame where six-storey apartments rise, without any sewage system or drinkable water. China has great interests in Africa's natural goods as well as in its trade. In Bata, Chinese companies are developing the construction of tanks in which to store oil and gas extracted before being loaded onto their ships. They also intend to build a refinery that would allow Equatorial Guinea to elaborate its own fuel and other derivatives. All this huge amount of money coming from oil and gas doesn't improve the conditions in which the majority of the population live, who are still lacking medical attention, schools or food, with a life expectancy of around 50, very low considering this small country is the first oil producer of Central Africa. Unfortunately, Obiang's regime and the administrative corruption dilute all these benefits. Malabo, January'08.
